Bio

Nethra Gururaj is a Director of Photography and Gaffer currently based in New York.  


She has shot a feature film (Lotus, 2024), short films (Jasmine Flowers, Late Date, Desire of Her), show pilots (Ethirneechal, Circle of Shadow Moon), documentaries and music videos.

She is an alumni of the Academy Gold Rising program Cinematography production track where she worked as the gaffer for "Flutter" - an Academy short film. 

 

Her recent narrative short "Jasmine Flowers" which she wrote and shot is a deeply personal story detailing an elderly woman’s journey, challenging toxic and archaic South Asian traditions which secludes widows from facets of society. The film is gaining recognition among the film festival circuit, currently in the process of being transformed into a feature. 
 

She is an MFA graduate in Cinematography from New York Film Academy in Los Angeles. She speaks four languages including English, Kannada, Tamil and Hindi.
